Review: Ovation Deluxe Schooler Helmet

I have a hard time finding helmets that fit. I have a large, oval-shaped head. Since I don’t regularly show or ride in clinics, I don’t need a fancy $300+ helmet, but I do need something comfortable and lightweight that I can wear while schooling and trail riding.

I’m so glad that I discovered Ovation’s Deluxe Schooler. This helmet is incredibly lightweight and comfortable. It’s low-profile and fits my head incredibly well – there are none of the pressure points or gaps of space that I sometimes find in wearing other helmets. The adjustable harness system features a dial in the back to ensure a perfect fit for each individual. The helmet’s chinstrap is covered with a soft piece of fabric, which I appreciate – the fabric is cushy and prevents you from having the nylon strap directly against your chin.

Additionally, the Deluxe Schooler provides great ventilation and is lightweight enough to make it comfortable even during the summer months. It’s stylish looking, and you wouldn’t believe that you can get such a great helmet at such a great and affordable price.

I was heartbroken when I had a riding accident just a few months after buying my Deluxe Schooler. My helmet hit the ground – hard – but did a great job of protecting my head. My only disappointment in the Deluxe Schooler is that the replacement policy offered by Ovation was limited and did not prove advantageous when purchasing a replacement lower-end model of helmet. Still, I think the helmet is excellent, and it remains my favorite helmet model.

Review: Buckeye Peppermint Treats - No Sugar Added

Whisper Says: I adore these treats. I might be a little biased because I also LOVE candy canes, but when my annual Christmas candy cane supply ran out this year, I was delighted to have these treats as a backup. I would eat the whole bag in one sitting if my mom would let me.

Paige Says: Whisper loves peppermint, and these treats offer a great way to give her that flavor without the added sugar. The treats are small, which can be good or bad. They’re the perfect size to use as rewards if you treat when training. If you hand feed, they’re a little difficult for even the agile-lipped Whisper to pick up off of my palm. Still, they’re hard and don’t fall apart quickly, so slipping them into your pocket is no big issue. They’re also too small to pose a choking hazard to your average horse. And you can’t beat the price or the value – I think these treats by Buckeye Nutrition are great.

Review: Noble Outfitters Best Dang Boot Socks

I have to tell you about some socks – I love them, and I’m not the type of person who would typically confess her adoration of clothing, let alone socks. But for these socks, I’ll make an exception.

You see, the aptly named “Best Dang Boot Socks” by Noble Equine, recently renamed Noble Outfitters, succeed in an area where so many other boot socks have failed: These socks can fit over my stupidly large calves. Yes folks, you heard it right – if you have big calves, chances are these socks could change your life. Someone over at Noble Outfitters understood that not all riders have stick-thin legs, and they created these socks with enough stretch that you can easily slip them over your tree trunk legs without ever threatening to cut off your circulation. It’s amazing!

They’re comfortable, breathable, hold up well, and best of all, they fit. If you haven’t tried these socks and are still tearing the stitching out of the cuffs of your other boot socks in attempt to make them stretch, you need to stop and get yourself a pair of these socks. Your legs will thank you for it.
